Waris said, ‘I came here a month ago. 13 to 14 people lived in this hostel. There were 2 rooms on each floor of the 5-storey building. 2 to 3 people lived in every room. When I left, I saw 6 or 7 people. Construction was going on there for a week.” He told, “I jokingly told Yasin an hour ago that the building was going to collapse. He didn’t take it seriously. My friends are happy to see me safe.” Habib said – There were 4 floors and 8 rooms in the hostel. Habib Khan said, “The college was closed for 3 days due to Janmashtami holiday. That’s why I went to Shaheen Bagh. I had to return this evening. Had college since Monday. Thank God I was not in the hostel at that time.” He told, “There were 4 floors in the boys hostel. There were 8 rooms. There was a shop downstairs, but it was closed. There were 2 rooms on each floor, 2 people lived in one room. Some beds were empty. Although there were comfortably 14 people. Work was going on below, so some workers are buried. People nearby have also been hit by the debris. One of my friends had come out of the PG just 10 minutes ago. After he left from there, the building collapsed.” The owner is concerned about the bus fare, does not even come to see Satya Niketan. There are a large number of hostels, PGs and food shops in the narrow streets of Satya Niketan. There was a delay in reaching the rescue equipment in the narrow streets. Many students buried under the debris are calling others for help and pleading for saving their lives. Eyewitnesses said that they felt a strong vibration as soon as the building collapsed. When people came out of their houses, they found debris in place of ‘Hostel Days’ PG. According to the people present on the spot, many old houses have been converted into PGs for the last 20 years and the buildings that have collapsed have not been maintained for a long time.
