Actress Tamannaah Bhatia is in the news these days for her new film ‘The One’. His character in the film and especially the song ‘Chhathi Maiya’ is in discussion. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Tamanna spoke openly about her emotional connection with the festival of Chhath, spirituality and Sanatan. Tamanna told that the audience in theaters is watching this film not just as entertainment but as a festival; People are leaving popcorn in the theater and distributing thekua and are taking off their shoes and slippers and going into the hall. Question: When the script of ‘The One’ first came to you, why did you say ‘yes’ to working in it? Answer: I thought it was a very interesting concept, which brings together folklore, fantasy and faith. There are many such stories in our country which have not yet reached the common people. Around 30 to 40 crore people celebrate Chhath Mahaparva. We have seen Holi-Diwali a lot in films, but for the first time a great festival like Chhath has been shown on such a large scale on the big screen. Plus, there’s a deep emotion at the heart of this action film. Since childhood, I have liked films like ‘The Mummy’, which contain magic and folklore. So I felt that this is a film that the entire family can sit together and watch. Question: You became emotional while singing the song ‘Chhathi Maiya’ in the film. What emotional and spiritual changes occurred within you? Answer: When I heard this song for the first time in the voice of Vishal Mishra, I felt that this is the inner feeling of every devotee. During the shooting, when I was doing the ritual of offering Arghya to the Sun God, then I understood a very important thing, whatever sets, its rise is also certain. Many times we get disappointed after seeing ups and downs in life, but Chhath Mahaparva teaches us that after the setting sun comes the rising sun. This song made me feel a deep sense of gratitude. Question: What kind of reaction are you getting from the audience in the theatre, did you expect this kind of reaction? Answer: To be honest, we did not think like this at all while making the film. But now when I am watching the reels and videos, people are taking off their shoes and slippers outside the theater and going inside. People are leaving popcorn in the hall and distributing thekua. The kind of love that is being received from Bihar, Patna and Jharkhand, I have not seen for any film in a long time. Many people are crying emotionally in the theater because it is related to their faith. It is very magical for me to see this. Question: You yourself are a devotee of Shiva and are spiritual. Did this association help you in playing this role? Answer: Absolutely. My real spiritual journey began when I met my Guru about four years ago. I think if this film had been offered to me 4 years ago, I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it like that. Because devotion is such a feeling in which you cannot do any adulteration or false acting. If that feeling in you is not genuine, the audience catches on immediately. A student in Patna told me that you were able to do this song because God has chosen you for it. Question: Nowadays films based on Sanatan and Indian culture are getting a lot of love from the audience. How do you see this period? Answer: This is a very important period, especially for Urban India. We try to weigh everything with logic and evidence. The things said in Sanatan culture are as spiritual as they are scientific. Spirituality says that first you believe, the experience will come automatically. Today people want to know more about their culture, so when they find such true stories, films perform well at the box office. Question: How difficult is it to strike a balance between cinematic liberty and cultural authenticity in films? Answer: Your intention must be right. When we shot the entire Chhath sequence, we took full care of all the rules and protocols. Our director Deepak is from UP-Bihar belt, so he was very particular. We were not making any documentary, but were conveying the faith and emotion of Chhath to the people through a story. To feel that emotion, a little cinematic liberty has to be taken, so that the audience can feel that reverence deeply. Box Office Collection of ‘One – Force of the Forest’ The film ‘One – Force of the Forest’ has registered a net collection of ₹4.25 crore through 7,070 shows on the sixth day of its release.
