A 3-day Maritime Information Sharing Workshop started on Monday in Gurugram, Haryana. In this workshop, 41 maritime experts from 29 countries are discussing safety planning in the Indian Ocean. India is leading this.

Through this workshop, talks are being held on building strong relations with the countries of the Indian Ocean region and making information sharing easier with them. This will help in stopping drug addiction, arms smuggling and human trafficking in the Indian Ocean region.
Indian Navy Vice Admiral Tarun Sobti, who attended the event, said that we should play an active role in enhancing regional cooperation, promoting blue economy and ensuring a peaceful and secure maritime zone in the Indian Ocean.
He said- It is a great pleasure to see that this seminar room has become a center of global thinking to free the sea from criminal activities. Our collective presence here today is clear evidence that we are serious about strengthening maritime safety and security through cooperation and engagement.

Workshop will run till 5th November The workshop organized at the Information Fusion Center Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), Gurugram, will run from 3 to 5 November. In this workshop, discussions are being held to increase real-time coordination and information sharing in the Indian Ocean.
This workshop is part of India’s Ocean Policy, whose full name is Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions i.e. Collective Progress for Shared Security and Development. The objective of this policy is to strengthen reliable cooperation and information sharing among the countries of the Indian Ocean region.

Experts from 30 countries arrived Workshop 2025 has a larger number of international organizations participating than previous editions of the workshop. These include the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, RECAP Information Sharing Centre, Regional Maritime Information Fusion Centre, Information Fusion Center Singapore and several major shipping companies.
Apart from this, maritime security officials from 30 countries including Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), Djibouti Code of Conduct, Jeddah Amendment and BIMSTEC are participating in this workshop.

India ahead for maritime security According to Navy officials, the Maritime Information Sharing Workshop 2025 (MISW) was started in the year 2019. Since then, the program has become an important platform in the maritime security sector, promoting better communication, partnership and information exchange between countries at the operational level.
Initiative to stop maritime crime The objective of this workshop is to control maritime threats such as piracy, drug smuggling, human trafficking and illegal fishing. India represents this. The workshop is discussing how maritime security can be strengthened with the use of new technology, artificial intelligence, data analytics and real-time monitoring systems.
India will also give information about the role of its National Maritime Information Sharing Centres, which share information about maritime incidents, ship movements and emergencies with various countries.
Live feed of 25 countries Live feed of 43 multinational centers of 25 countries is available in the Information Fusion Center Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR) built in INS Aravali. This center has established more than 76 international contacts with 28 countries. It has deployed International Liaison Officers from 15 countries including Australia, America, France, Japan and the United Kingdom, who are continuously cooperating with 57 maritime security organizations and 25 partner countries.
