Bharatiya Janata Party has registered a big victory in the Delhi Municipal Corporation (MCD) elections on Wednesday. Three-time councilor from Rohini East, Pravesh Wahi has been elected the new Mayor of Delhi, while Anand Vihar councilor Dr. Monica Pant has become the Deputy Mayor. In this election, 14 councilors of Indraprastha Vikas Party also supported Wahi. In comparison to him, Congress candidate Haji Zaraf was in the fray, who got only nine votes.

Similarly, BJP councilor from Anand Vihar, Dr. Monica Pant has been elected as Deputy Mayor by getting 156 votes. This victory was also one-sided because Aam Aadmi Party Did not participate in this election process. Before the elections, under the leadership of Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva, a meeting was held in the party office and the entire process of voting was explained to all the MPs and councilors.

Apart from the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, elections were also held for the Standing Committee, in which Aam Aadmi Party councilor Jalaj Choudhary along with BJP’s Jai Bhagwan Yadav and Manish Chaddha have been elected.

Wahi, who has nearly two decades of political experience, has previously worked on important positions like Chairman of the Standing Committee of North Delhi Municipal Corporation and Chairman of Rohini Zone. New appointments in the standing committee

Along with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, members of the powerful Standing Committee of the MCD were also selected. From BJP’s side, Begumpur councilor Jai Bhagwan Yadav and Paharganj’s Manish Chadha have become part of the panel. At the same time, Jalaj Chaudhary, Aam Aadmi Party councilor from Shalimar Bagh, has also got a place in this panel. With these appointments, a new leadership structure has been prepared in the corporation. There are now hopes for the urban development and improvement in basic facilities of Delhi from the duo of Pravesh Wahi and Monica Pant.

Pravesh Wahi’s victory by a huge margin is considered to be the result of BJP’s strong strategy. The decision of Aam Aadmi Party to stay out of the elections made the path of BJP easier. Only 9 votes received by the Congress candidate show that the opposition camp was completely scattered in the House. BJP put forward Wahi and Pant to create a balance of experience and professional background. Now the new leadership will have a big challenge to bring Delhi’s cleanliness system and corporation administration back on track.
