A meeting was held between FORDA delegation and Union Health Minister JP Nadda in Delhi.
The two-day strike of the Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) over the rape-murder of a trainee doctor in Kolkata ended on Tuesday evening. Some FORDA doctors met Health Minister JP Nadda at his residence in Delhi. The doctors said that their demands have been accepted, so they are ending the strike.
However, doctors from many other hospitals and other associations in the country have said that they will continue the strike. These include AIIMS, Indira Gandhi Hospital and Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA). They say that the strike will continue until a central law is implemented to stop attacks on doctors.
Dr Dhruv Chauhan of Junior Doctors Network of Indian Medical Association (IMA) criticized FORDA for ending the strike. He said that most of the medical fraternity is against it. Ending the strike now would mean that female resident doctors may never get justice. Therefore, Central Hospitals will continue their strike.
On Friday (August 9) morning, the body of a 31-year-old trainee doctor was found in the seminar hall of the emergency building of RG Kar Hospital. She was on night duty. The doctor was bleeding from her private parts, eyes and mouth. Her neck bone was also found broken.
The police handed over the postmortem report to the trainee doctor’s family on Monday (August 12), stating that after raping and assaulting the doctor, the accused strangulated and killed her. The incident is estimated to have taken place between 3 and 5 am on Friday.

FORDA said- decided to end the strike in the interest of patients
The Federation of Resident Doctors’ Association (FORDA) issued a statement after meeting the Health Minister. In this, they said that the Health Minister has agreed that a committee will be formed to work on the Central Protection Act, which will also include FORDA.
FORDA said that the ministry has assured that work will start on this in 15 days. Therefore, keeping in mind the interest of the patients, the strike is being called off from Wednesday morning. FORDA had placed five demands before the government. Information on how many demands have been accepted apart from the Central Protection Act is not yet known.

Postmortem report reveals brutality against trainee doctor
The police handed over the postmortem report to the trainee doctor’s family on Monday (August 12), stating that after raping and assaulting the doctor, the accused strangulated and killed her. The incident is estimated to have taken place between 3 and 5 am on Friday.
The four-page postmortem report said that the accused had brutally assaulted the doctor. Deep wounds were found on his private parts. The accused continuously pressed his nose, mouth and throat to suppress the doctor’s screams. The thyroid cartilage was broken due to strangulation.
The doctor’s head was pushed against the wall so that he could not scream. Injuries were found on his stomach, lips, fingers and left leg. Then he was attacked so forcefully that his glasses broke and glass pieces entered his eyes. There was bleeding from both eyes, mouth and private parts.

After the arrest, the accused said- hang me
A headphone was found near the doctor’s body. CCTV cameras showed Sanjay entering the emergency building at around 4 am on Friday. He had the same headphone around his neck then. However, when he came out of the building at around 6 am, he did not have the headphone around his neck. On this basis, he was arrested on 9 August.
Police said that after committing the rape-murder, he went to sleep in the police barrack where he lived. After waking up, he even cleaned his clothes. Sanjay confessed his crime as soon as the interrogation began. He had no regrets. He said casually that if you want, you can hang me.
