38% candidates in Keralam Assembly elections have criminal cases registered against them. Of these, maximum 72 candidates are from Congress. BJP has 59 candidates and CPI(M) has 51 candidates. At the same time, serious cases like murder and rape are registered against 23%.
The Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) released this report on Saturday after analyzing the affidavits of 863 candidates out of 883 contesting the assembly elections. There are 339 crorepati candidates. That means 2 out of every 5 candidates are crorepatis.
In the last assembly elections in the state in 2021, only 27% of the candidates were crorepatis, but in 2026 this number increased to 39%. That means the number of crorepati candidates has increased by 48% in 5 years.
According to the report, 54% candidates are not graduates. At the same time, the education of 48% candidates is between 5th to 12th. Voting will be held in a single phase in the state on April 9. The result will come on 4th May.

Criminal cases against 182 candidates of Congress, BJP and CPI
Criminal cases are pending against 182 out of 255 candidates of Congress, BJP and CPI. 17 candidates face murder-related charges. At the same time, there are 15 cases related to crime against women. All the parties contesting the elections have given at least 42% tickets to candidates against whom criminal cases are pending. 201 candidates have serious criminal cases against them.

Reji is the richest candidate of Kerala Congress, 8 do not have any property
Reji Cheriyan of Kerala Congress from Kuttanad seat in Alappuzha district is the richest candidate in the 2026 Kerala Assembly elections. His total wealth is Rs 218 crore. Meanwhile, Aashna Thambi of SUCI(C) from Ettumanoor seat in Kottayam district has assets worth only Rs 84. There are also 8 candidates who have declared their assets as zero.
While 27% of the candidates in the 2021 assembly elections were crorepatis, in 2026 this number will increase to 39%. The average assets of each candidate is Rs 2.78 crore. The average asset of a BJP candidate is Rs 5.7 crore, that of Congress Rs 3.93 crore and that of CPI(M) Rs 2.3 crore.


Only 11% women got tickets
According to the 2011 census, Keralam is one of those states in the country where there are more women than men. Despite this, the parties have given only 11% (92) tickets to women. Kerala is also one of the best states in the country in terms of education. 54% of the candidates contesting the elections are not graduates. At the same time, the education of 48% candidates is between 5th to 12th.
16% (140) candidates contesting the elections are in the age group of 25 to 40 years. 58% (497) candidates are aged between 41 to 60 years. Furthermore, 26% (224) candidates are in the age group of 61 to 80 years. There are 2 candidates whose age is more than 80 years.
