A woman writer, who had come to Indore to write a book related to the Shah Bano case, became the victim of a mob lynching-like incident, which was in the news across the country for her demand for maintenance after divorce. Shahbano’s family accused her of being a ‘data thief’, but the people of the area thought she was a ‘son thief’ and beat up the woman. Not only this, the woman also had to sit in the police station for several hours. Even after 15 days of the incident, the police has failed to arrest the accused. After the woman’s complaint, the police is searching for the accused on the basis of the video.

It is alleged that the family members of the Shah Bano family had demanded Rs 25 lakh from the woman and three percent share on the sale of the book in the name of sharing writing material and research data.

The woman also prepared an agreement in this regard, but the family members made changes in it and started calling the woman a ‘data thief’. Meanwhile, when the crowd gathered, they mistook the word ‘data thief’ for ‘son thief’ and the mob from Khizrabad Colony of Khajrana area beat up the woman thinking that she was a child thief. After the incident, the woman lodged a complaint in Khajrana police station area, but even after 15 days, FIR has not been registered.

Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said that the investigation of the case is going on and strict action will be taken against those who gathered a crowd by calling the woman a child lifter, based on the evidence. He said that the police will not tolerate mob violence against any innocent person and the reasons for the delay are also being reviewed.
