Veteran actress Waheeda Rehman has reacted to musician AR Rehman’s statement in which he said that “communal discrimination” could be one of the reasons for her getting less work in Bollywood. While talking to Indian Express, Waheeda Rehman said – “Yes, I have read about it, but I try to know less about it. When everything is going well, I prefer not to pay attention to it. These small things happen in every country.” She further said, “Whom to trust and how much to trust? I don’t even know whether this is true or not. Why get involved in such matters? Especially at my age, I don’t want controversy by being associated with anyone or any issue. Be at peace, this country is ours, just be happy. That’s all I can say.” Waheeda Rehman also said that changing times could also be the reason for AR Rehman getting less work. He said, “Work keeps going up and down. After a certain age, people say to come up with something new or different. In such a situation, sometimes some people are left behind. It is not necessary that the people who have reached great heights always remain there. Ups and downs keep on happening, there is nothing new in this.” What did AR Rahman say? Actually, AR Rahman had talked about favoritism in Bollywood in an interview given to BBC Asian Network. He had said, “Maybe I didn’t realize it earlier or it was hidden. But the balance of power has changed in the last eight years and now people who are not creative have the power. It may also be communal, but it doesn’t come to my attention directly. I only know through rumors that I was booked, but later the music company hired five more composers.” After this statement of AR Rahman, many celebs including Javed Akhtar, Shaan, Shankar Mahadevan and Kangana Ranaut reacted. After the controversy escalated, Rahman released a video on social media and gave clarification. He said, “India is my inspiration, my guru and my home. Sometimes things are misunderstood. My aim has always been to respect and serve through music. My intention was never to hurt anyone.”
