Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Mahatma Gandhi Center in Tashkent during his two-day visit to Uzbekistan. Here Uzbek students recited poems written by Modi in Hindi. Modi became emotional after hearing his poems from the students. He said that Hindi is not the mother tongue of the students, yet he presented the sentiments of the poems by understanding them exactly as they were in his heart. Modi also mentioned the growing interest in India, Mahatma Gandhi and Tamil culture in Uzbekistan. He suggested translating Thirukkural into Uzbek language. During Modi’s visit, relations between India and Uzbekistan reached Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. 11 agreements, MOUs and understandings were also exchanged between the two countries. Impact of Indian culture in Uzbekistan An Uzbek Indologist who studied India and Indian culture in the program said that perhaps there would be very few countries in the world where people have so much love for India. He told that almost every citizen here is familiar with the word ‘Namaste’. People’s interest in Indian art, dance, music, philosophy and yoga is also increasing. Thirukkural should be translated into Uzbek language. PM Modi also mentioned Tamil literature and ‘Tirukkural’. Referring to the 80th anniversary of the institute, he asked whether work could be done towards translating Thirukkural into Uzbek language. Modi said it will help in understanding Indian philosophy and thoughts. He also said that the philosophical ideas present in the world’s ancient languages show how deep human thinking has been since the beginning of civilization. What is Thirukkural? Thirukkural, also known as ‘Kural’, is a famous work of Tamil literature. It contains practical lessons related to morality, good conduct and life. It was written by the poet and philosopher Thiruvalluvar. It is believed to have been composed between the second century BC to the fifth century AD. This creation is not limited to religion or any one community and is known to contain useful ideas for the entire humanity. India-Uzbekistan relations get new strength PM Modi’s two-day visit to Uzbekistan from August 29 to 30 has given new momentum to the relations between the two countries. India and Uzbekistan have upgraded their relations from ‘Strategic Partnership’ to ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’. During this visit, 11 agreements between the two countries are aimed at further strengthening and broadening the cooperation between the two countries.
