Amidst the rapidly changing situation in Iran, many Indian citizens stranded there have returned safely to India. Most of these citizens who reached Delhi from Iran late on Friday night are students. Currently, about 10 thousand Indian citizens are present in Iran, which includes students, businessmen and professionals. Out of these, there are 2500-3000 students who had gone there for medical studies. In view of the possibility of worsening of the situation in Iran, the Government of India and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) are continuously monitoring the situation. The Foreign Ministry on Thursday also advised to avoid traveling to Iran. In fact, demonstrations started in Iran on 28 December 2025 in protest against the historic fall of the Iranian currency Rial and inflation. It has since spread to all 31 provinces of the country. The website Iran International has claimed that at least 12 thousand people have died across the country. Most of the people have died due to bullet injuries.
