Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir claimed that the real objective of Pakistan, formed in the name of Islam, is about to be fulfilled. He said this to Pakistani newspaper The News International in Lahore on Sunday.

Asim Munir had come here to attend the Walima (reception) of Junaid Safdar, grandson of former PM Shahbaz Sharif. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, many senior leaders, ministers and military officers were present in it.

In this conversation, Asim Munir said that Allah has given a historic opportunity to Pakistan, so that it can achieve its objective of formation and the country is rapidly moving in that direction. He said that Pakistan was formed in the name of Islam and today it enjoys a special status among Islamic countries. Now its importance will increase even more.

Asim Munir had reached Lahore on Sunday to attend the reception of Nawaz Sharif’s grandson Junaid Safdar.

Munir said- the situation in Pakistan has improved a lot

Asim Munir claimed that Pakistan’s position in the world and its economic condition has improved a lot.

When he was asked about the recognition he is getting at the international level, he said that if he is getting any personal appreciation, it is also due to the grace of Allah. He said that in reality this is the recognition given to Pakistan and not to any one individual.

His statement is also being linked to his meetings with US President Donald Trump. According to reports, Asim Munir and Shahbaz Sharif also assured Trump about the resources of rare minerals and crude oil in Pakistan, about which there is no concrete information.

Asim Munir has been continuously giving radical statements

Asim Munir keeps giving radical statements continuously. In the conference of Overseas Pakistanis held in Islamabad in April 2025, he had said that the two-nation theory is the foundation of Pakistan.

He had said that there is a fundamental difference between Muslims and Hindus and both are not one but different nations. He also said that the foundation of Pakistan is based on Kalma and it is important to convey this thinking to the coming generations.

Asim Munir has been emphasizing on Islamic ideology, two-nation theory and rhetoric against India in his speeches.

General Munir had given a controversial statement regarding Kashmir and Two Nation Theory in the first Overseas Pakistani Conference in Islamabad in April last year.

Munir is considered completely different from the old army chiefs

Asim Munir is considered quite different from his earlier army chiefs. Most of the earlier army chiefs were professional soldiers trained in Western military institutions, who maintained a distance from religion and politics. On the contrary, Asim Munir is Hafiz-e-Quran and religion is an important part of his public image. He is the first officer of Pakistan who has led both Military Intelligence and ISI.

Under his leadership, the Pakistani Army is presenting itself not only as a force protecting the country but also as a force protecting Islam.

Old Islamic and Arabic symbols are being used for this. The insurgents operating in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are being given names like ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ and ‘Fitna al-Hindustan’ and are being described as misguided forces and supporters of India.

CDF appointed on 4 December 2025

The Government of Pakistan appointed Asim Munir as the country’s first Chief of Defense Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) on 4 December 2025. His tenure on both the posts will be five years.

Munir is the first military officer of Pakistan to hold both the posts of CDF and COAS simultaneously. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had sent a summary to the President recommending the appointment. Munir was promoted to the post of Field Marshal this year.

On November 12, the Pakistani Parliament passed the 27th constitutional amendment to increase the strength of the army. Under this, Munir was made CDF. As soon as he got this post, he also got the command of Pakistan’s nuclear weapons, that is, he became the most powerful person in the country.

In fact, on 29 November 2022, General Asim Munir was appointed Army Chief. His original tenure was of three years, i.e. ending on 28 November 2025.
