Highly-ranked IPS officer Nalin Prabhat has been appointed as the Special Director General (Special DG) of Jammu and Kashmir Police with immediate effect. He will take over the role of the head of the force after the retirement of R.R. Swain on September 30. The Home Ministry issued an order confirming Prabhat’s appointment, stating that he will take charge after Swain’s departure.
The order said that 1992 batch IPS Prabhat of Andhra Pradesh cadre is sent to Jammu and Kashmir with immediate effect and after the retirement of Swan on September 30, Prabhat is appointed as the DGP of Jammu and Kashmir.
Let us tell you that Prabhat’s career has been very illustrious and he has received many honors, including three Police Gallantry Medals and the Parakram Medal. 55-year-old Prabhat has extensive experience in anti-terrorism operations. He previously led the Greyhounds, a highly specialized anti-Naxal unit in Andhra Pradesh.
According to PTI, IPS Nalin has also served as Inspector General of Operations in Kashmir region and Additional Director General while handling the responsibility of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). As part of the recent administrative reshuffle, the government had reduced his tenure as Director General of National Security Guard (NSG) and facilitated his inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to Union Territory cadre (AGMUT) for an initial period of three years.
IPS Prabhat has extensive experience in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this, he is aware of the challenges of the region. His previous assignments in the region have given him a deep understanding of the complex security scenario, including the ongoing threat from terrorism and internal unrest. Observers suggest that Prabhat’s expertise could be important in meeting the security needs of the region during this politically sensitive period.
