This is the 10th time the US Secretary of State is visiting the Middle East since the start of the Israel-Hamas war.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Israel late Sunday night. He will meet Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu this afternoon. This meeting will take place at 1:30 pm in Jerusalem.

During this time, there will be a discussion between the two leaders about the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. Along with this, there will also be talks on the deal related to the release of hostages.

One of the aims of this dialogue is to reduce the growing tension between Iran and Israel in the Middle East. Earlier, on 15 and 16 August, talks were held in Doha between representatives of Israel, America, Qatar and Egypt regarding ceasefire.

Hamas did not participate in these talks. After the talks, US President Joe Biden said that we are very close to a ceasefire deal. However, Hamas has opposed the inclusion of new conditions in the ceasefire deal.

The second phase of the ceasefire deal talks are to be held in Egypt this week. The Israeli delegation left for Egypt on Sunday evening for these talks.

Israeli attacks continue amid talks
Despite all the ongoing efforts for ceasefire, there has been no reduction in actions by Israel in Gaza.

On Sunday (August 18), 25 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza. The dead included a woman and her 6 children. The woman’s youngest child was just 10 months old.

On the other hand, Israel is also attacking Lebanon. On Sunday, 10 people were killed in a strike by Israel in southern Lebanon. 5 other people were also injured in this attack. 2 children are also among those killed.

All the people killed in the attack were Syrian citizens. Two Israeli soldiers were injured in the rocket attack by Hezbollah.
