Shahrukh Khan’s IPL (Indian Premier League) team KKR (Kolkata Knight Rider) player Andre Russell has announced his retirement from IPL. He was playing for Shahrukh Khan’s team for the last 11 years, but now he will work as the sports staff of KKR. After the announcement of his retirement, Shahrukh Khan bid farewell to him in an emotional manner.
In response to Andre Russell’s retirement announcement post, Shahrukh Khan wrote from the official X account,
Thank you for these beautiful memories, Andre. Our warriors in shining armour. Your contribution to Kolkata Knight Riders will always be remembered and we wish you all the best for the next chapter of your illustrious journey as a player.
Shahrukh further writes, “Power Coach”, who is passing on his intelligence, stamina and, of course, his power to our boys in purple and gold jersey. And yes, my friend, any other jersey would look really weird on you. Muscle Russell forever. Lots of love to you, from the team and everyone who loves the game.
Let us tell you that Andre Russell started his IPL career with the Delhi team, after being a part of that team for two years, he joined Shahrukh Khan’s team Kolkata Knight Riders in 2014. In the last IPL season, Andre Russell was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 12 crore, however, he was released in 2025 due to poor performance.
While announcing his retirement from IPL, Andre Russell had written on Sunday, ‘I am retiring from IPL, but not giving up the swag. Had a great IPL career, memories of 12 seasons, and lots of love from the KKR family. I will keep hitting sixes and taking wickets in other cricket leagues of the world.
Russell further wrote, ‘And what is the best thing? That I’m not leaving the house. You will see me in a new role, in the support staff of KKR as the Power Coach for 2026. New chapter, new energy. Always for the night.’
