US President Donald Trump has ordered the death penalty for former American soldier Nidal Hasan by shooting. The Pentagon gave this information on Monday. If Hassan’s sentence is implemented, he would be the first person to receive the death penalty under the US military justice system since 1961. Last in the military system was Private John A. Bennett was given the death penalty. In 2009, Hasan opened fire at a Texas military base while shouting religious slogans, killing 13 people. After the attack, he admitted that he had done it for Jihad. On November 5, 2009, Army psychiatrist Major Nidal Hasan reached Fort Hood military base with a personal pistol and suddenly opened fire on soldiers and other people. It was the deadliest mass shooting at a US military base. At that time America was fighting wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Hassan later said that he considered these wars illegal and immoral and attacked for jihad. Hasan was also injured in the firing and became paralyzed from the waist down. In the military court he confessed to the murders. In 2013 he was convicted on a total of 45 counts of premeditated murder and attempted murder. Hassan expressed no remorse over the attack. He told a military mental health panel that he wished he had died in the attack so he could become a martyr. He even said that even if he gets the death penalty, he will consider himself a martyr. Major Hasan had radicalized religious views before the attack. Major Hassan was born in Arlington, Virginia, to Muslim parents of Palestinian origin. He attended Virginia Tech and began military medical school training in 1997. In the years before the attack, his views on Islam had become radical. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell, in his statement, referred to Hasan’s jihadi motive and described him as a terrorist. However, Hasan was not prosecuted under terrorism-related charges. President Bush also approved the death sentence of a military prisoner, President George W. Bush in 2008 as Private Ronald A. Gray’s death sentence was approved. Gray was convicted of a series of rapes and murders in the 1980s. But a judge stayed his death sentence. The judge said Gray should get more time to appeal in federal court. Gray remains on military death row until 2026. There are currently four prisoners awaiting death sentence on US military death row. In the military system, no prisoner can be given death sentence unless the President himself confirms that sentence. After Trump’s approval in Hasan’s case, now the Army Secretary has to decide the date and place of sentencing. Even after this, the sentence may be stayed due to legal appeal. So far only 6 have been sentenced to death by shooting. The most common method of death penalty in America is injection. Since the resumption of capital punishment in 1976, 1,488 people have been executed by injection. In comparison, only 6 people have been given death sentence by shooting. That means this method is very rare in America. ———————- Also read this news… American Vice President said – The attacking pilot was a problem: Why was the plane allowed to fly even after knowing about it?
