A 67-year-old passenger suddenly started creating ruckus on an American Airlines flight in America. He first made objectionable comments against the flight attendant and other passengers. When the situation worsened, three passengers overpowered him and tied him to the seat with duct tape and zip ties. Due to the incident the flight had to be diverted to Baltimore. The incident occurred on American Airlines Flight 618 on the night of September 3. The plane was en route from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, to Newark, New Jersey. He started shouting, talking about Jesus and hell. According to reports, about two hours into the flight, the passenger suddenly became aggressive. He was shouting, talking about Jesus and going to hell. He used a racial slur against a black flight attendant and also made offensive comments about gay people. After this he clashed with the passenger sitting nearby. According to witnesses, he first attacked the passenger’s laptop and then grabbed his throat. When a female passenger tried to intervene, he also tried to attack her. 3 passengers worked together to control the accused. After he became violent, three male passengers came forward to help him. Together they tried to stop him. Retired officer Juan Mejia was also included among them. According to Mejia, within a few seconds the atmosphere of the plane completely changed. At first everything was normal, but suddenly the passenger started shouting and fighting. While trying to stop the accused, he bit Mejia on his hand. After this the flight crew gave duct tape and zip ties to the passengers. The passengers tied him to the seat and secured his hands with zip ties. The arrested flight was diverted to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport upon landing in Baltimore. After the plane landed, Maryland Transportation Authority Police took the accused into custody. He has been identified as 67-year-old Arthur Lane Lundeen, according to police. He is from Tucson, Arizona. He has been charged with second-degree assault and disorderly conduct. Police said Lundeen also had an open wound on his hand. He was seen by paramedics at the scene and after treatment was declared safe to travel. Court released, hearing on October 19. Apart from the action of the local police, FBI is also investigating the case. The agency is looking into whether a case is made out under federal law in the incident. The FAA is also investigating the incident. Lundeen appeared at a preliminary hearing and was released on his own recognizance, according to court records. His next hearing has been fixed for October 19. Real estate company removed Lundeen from his job. Lundeen worked for Arizona real estate company Long Reality. After the incident, the company removed him and also deleted his profile from the website. American Airlines said the safety of passengers and crew is its priority.
