There have been reports of a massive explosion and firing in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul on Thursday night. Locals told the media that several explosions were heard near Abdul Haq Square in the city and fighter jets were seen in the sky. Videos viral on social media showed plumes of smoke and the sound of jet planes was heard.
According to Pakistani media, Pakistan Air Force has killed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Mufti Noor Wali Mehsud in an air strike in Kabul. Mehsud was holding the leadership of TTP since 2018. He was accused of working with the support of Taliban in Afghanistan.
It has been claimed that along with Mehsud, two TTP commanders Qari Saifullah Mehsud and Khalid Mehsud were also killed in the attack. Some reports also suggest damage to nearby houses and civilian casualties.
Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for Afghanistan’s interim Taliban government, said that an investigation into the matter has been started, but no official statement has come yet.
Pakistani media has called it a precise attack against TTP. TTP has carried out several attacks in Pakistan in the last few years, killing more than 1,000 people.

Afghan government claims – everything is under control
Afghan government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said an explosion was heard in Kabul city. However, he said that there is no need to worry as everything is under control. The investigation into the incident is ongoing and no damage has been reported so far.
Taliban Foreign Minister Muttaki in India on a week-long visit
Afghanistan’s acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki arrived in Delhi on Thursday on a week-long visit. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India looked forward to talks with Muttaki on bilateral relations. Muttaqi’s visit from October 9 to 16 is the first high-level delegation from Kabul to New Delhi since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021.
