Four-time F1 Champion Max Verstappen kicked a journalist out of the presser ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix in Suzuka on Thursday as the Dutchman defied to entertain the presence of Guardian reporter Giles Richards due to questions the journo had prompted last season out.
Verstappen spotted Richards at the hospitality suite and asserted that, ‘One second – I’m not speaking before he’s leaving.’
Richards asked Verstappen if his frustration was due to the questions he had prodded the Red Bull driver with last year, to which Verstappen said, “Yes. Get Out.”
Verstappen was apparently irked by Richards’ query last season after the Dutchman missed out on his fifth crown in a row due to penalty points for ramming into George Russell of Mercedes.
Verstappen wasn’t so much offended by the question rather than the tone in which it was put forward to him.
“You forget all the other stuff that happened in my season. The only thing you mention is Barcelona. I knew that would come. You’re giving me a stupid grin now.
“I don’t know. Yeah, it’s part of racing at the end. You live and learn. The championship is one of 24 rounds. I’ve also had a lot of early Christmas presents given to me in the second half, so you can also question that.”
And once Richards obliged to the Red Bull start’s demand, Verstappen said, “Now we can start,” as he addressed the presser.
