The worst is behind us, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers told employees in a video message, reassuring staff that the airline has stabilised operations after the severe crisis earlier this month that led to mass cancellations and airport chaos. His address came on a day IndiGo’s shares rose to ₹5,071 apiece in morning trade, reflecting renewed market confidence.

Elbers said the past two weeks had been “very challenging,” but praised employees for standing “tall and united,” thanking pilots, cabin crew, airport staff, operations control, customer service teams and support functions whose “collective dedication” he described as the backbone of IndiGo. He noted that after announcing stabilisation on December 9, the airline restored its network to 2,200 flights.

He outlined three priorities going forward: resilience during the IROP (irregular operations) season, a thorough root-cause analysis, and rebuilding internal processes. Elbers said the disruptions appeared to be “a compounding effect of several factors,” and urged staff to avoid speculation while an external aviation expert appointed by the board conducts a detailed review.

Similar disruptions at major global carriers would also be studied for lessons, he said.

As part of the rebuilding effort, Elbers announced that he and the leadership team will travel across the IndiGo network to meet employees, understand the challenges they faced and gather their feedback. He reminded staff not to let the recent turbulence overshadow the company’s 19-year growth story, saying IndiGo began in 2006 with one aircraft and expanded “aircraft by aircraft, city by city,” drawing professionals who wanted to be part of “something bigger.”
