Pakistan’s leading English daily, Dawn, faced massive trolling due to an AI blunder. The newspaper mistakenly published an AI-generated note in one of its business news articles. Such a goof-up by Pakistan’s leading newspaper created quite a buzz and drew massive trolling and criticism. However, Dawn apologised for the mistake, but the damage was done.

The AI message was published under a report titled “Auto sales rev up in October.” Seemingly, editors forgot to delete the AI-generated note before publishing the newspaper.

The published AI’s response to a possible prompt read, “If you want, I can also create an even snappier ‘front-page style’ version with punchy one-line stats and a bold, infographic-ready layout perfect for maximum reader impact. Do you want me to do that next?”

The cutting of the newspaper piece is being widely shared on social media.

Reportedly, Dawn issued an official statement on its social media platforms and apologised for the use of AI. Accepting the violation of their policy, the daily said that an investigation into the matter is underway.

“A newspaper report in today’s Dawn was originally edited using AI, which is in violation of Dawn’s current AI policy. The Dawn AI policy is available on our website,” the statement read. “The original report also carried AI-generated artefact text from the editing process, which has been edited out in the digital version. The matter is being investigated, and the violation of AI policy is regretted,” the statement concluded.
