A civil defence mock drill is set to be conducted in four states bordering Pakistan on Thursday evening.

The mock drill is scheduled to be conducted in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir.

This comes weeks after India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ against Pakistan on the intervening night of May 6 and 7, to avenge the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 tourists were killed on April 22.

The mock drill would showcase preparedness against potential terrorist threats and would aim at evaluating response strategies in the event of a hostage crisis and terror attack.

During the previous mock drills across different states of the country, Anti Terror Squads and commandos armed with ultra-modern weapons simulated a real-life terrorist attack.

In its military response in the form of ‘Operation Sindoor’, Indian forces struck terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating over 100 terrorists linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.

At 1.44 am on May 7, the government, in a statement, underlined that India has demonstrated “considerable restraint” in the selection of targets and method of execution and that “no Pakistani military facilities have been targeted”.

Shortly after, the Indian Army’s social media handles carried a message with a poster.

The poster had ‘OPERATION SINDOOR’ written on it with a small bowl carrying vermilion (worn by married Hindu women) forming the first ‘O’ of the second word while the second ‘O’ had a dash of the powder around it.

Following the Pahalgam terror attack, security agencies across the country have been on alert, stepping up preventive exercises.

Officials had stated that such mock drills will continue at other prominent locations to ensure quick, coordinated, and effective responses in case of any real threat.

Meanwhile, seven multi-party delegations are on a tour to world capitals to counter global misinformation and highlight India’s zero-tolerance policy on terrorism.

The move serves to share India’s united message against terrorism and underline the importance of international awareness, receiving strong support from community members.
