Tension continues in the Middle East. Iran suffered a deep setback in the recent war with Israel and America. Iran’s Security Chief Ali Larijani died in Israeli attacks. Ali Larijani had been the security advisor to the country’s Supreme Leader Khamenei. Larijani, who came to India in 2013, was interviewed by NDTV. In this interview, Larijani had given great importance to India-Iran friendship. He has described Iran’s age-old relations as unbreakable. In a special conversation with Shekhar Gupta, Larijani openly discussed the nuclear issue, regional security and bilateral relations with India.
Larijani had said that relations between India and Iran are not only commercial but also cultural and historical. He reminded that for almost two centuries the court language of India was Persian. Iran and India play complementary roles to each other. When we are together, a complete picture is formed. There may be small differences between us, like there are in a family, but at the strategic level our thinking is the same.”
India’s vote in IAEA: Injury or strategy?
When Shekhar Gupta asked him whether India’s vote against Iran at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the nuclear issue was a ‘setback’, Larijani accepted it maturely. He said, “It was a big difference, but it did not affect the basic relations. We wanted India to play a more active role because India is a big economic power and culturally very close to us.”
