Dahi-Handi festival (Mumbai Dahi Handi) is being celebrated with great pomp in many parts of the country including Mumbai in Maharashtra today. The festival of Dahi-Handi is celebrated on the second day of Shri Krishna Janmashtami in Bhadrapada i.e. on Navami. During this festival, a pot filled with curd is hung at a height with the help of a rope and then there is a competition among the group of Govindas to break it. Special arrangements have been made to ensure that there is no lapse in security and law and order in Mumbai during Dahi-Handi. More than 11,000 police personnel have been deployed at various places.
