There are bad ways to celebrate a win, and Jorge Martin proved it this weekend.
The Spaniard pulled off a stunning comeback victory in the MotoGP sprint at the Circuit of the Americas — only to immediately crash while celebrating it.
From hero to “Oh No”
The MotoGP star had just secured his first win with Aprilia Racing, and his first victory since his 2024 title-winning season.
An emotionally-charged Martin went for a celebratory wheelie down the straight in front of a packed Austin crowd — one that went very wrong.
As the front wheel came back down, he lost control and hit the deck.
“It was full send… With the wheelie, I knew I was going to crash at some point,” Martin confided afterwards.
“I wheelied in second gear, third gear… I couldn’t control the front… fourth gear, and then as soon as I touched the ground, I just crashed.”
Miraculously, Martin walked away unhurt, just a bit embarrassed and probably replaying that moment in his head a few hundred times.
“I’m sorry for the team. But today, they will be happy… so no issues.”
Martin’s Comeback Win At COTA
Starting P7, Martin clawed his way through the field, benefitted from a late crash by teammate Marco Bezzecchi, and hunted down Francesco Bagnaia in the closing laps.
A bold move at Turn 12 sealed a victory that ended a 500+ day drought.
