The seer’s camp believes the threats are directly linked to his ongoing cow protection campaign and his upcoming 81-day ‘Gavisthi Yatra’, set to begin in Gorakhpur in May.

The Shankaracharya is also scheduled to tour multiple Assembly constituencies across Uttar Pradesh as part of his ‘Gau Mata Rashtra Mata’ campaign.
The Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, has received death threats warning he will be killed like gangster Atiq Ahmed — who was shot dead on camera in Prayagraj in 2023. The threats came via text and audio messages on his official number, triggering an investigation by Varanasi police.
Who Threatened Him, And What Exactly Did The Messages Say?
• On April 1, multiple threatening text messages were sent to Jyotirmath’s official phone number between 10:25 am and 10:35 am.
• When the number was blocked, the caller sent two voice messages on April 6 — at 1:55 pm and 1:57 pm — via voicemail.
• The audio message stated: “His time has come, he cannot live long. He will perish midway where he is traveling. Anyone will kill him.”
Why Is This Being Seen As Especially Alarming?
• The seer’s camp believes the threats are directly linked to his ongoing cow protection campaign and his upcoming 81-day “Gavisthi Yatra,” set to begin in Gorakhpur in May.
• The Shankaracharya is also scheduled to tour multiple Assembly constituencies across Uttar Pradesh as part of his “Gau Mata Rashtra Mata” campaign.
• Religious leaders and supporters have condemned the threats and demanded immediate security enhancement and strict legal action.
What Is The Police Doing?
According to a report by Times of Indiainspector Sudhir Kumar Tripathi of Bhelupur police station confirmed a complaint has been received from the seer’s disciples and an investigation is underway. Both Varanasi and Prayagraj police are said to be looking into the matter.
