In a shocking incident reported from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr, a 12-year-old girl was allegedly beaten to death by her father as she had stolen a box of candies from a local grocery shop, police said on Saturday. The girl’s mother was also injured when she tried to intervene and stop the assault.
The victim, identified as Pooja Rani, was a Class 6 student at a government primary school. According to police, the incident took place on Thursday, shortly after the Navratri feast, when Pooja went to a nearby shop to buy sweets. There, she allegedly took a box of ‘Dil’ candies without paying for it.
When her father, Pushpendra Kumar, a milkman by profession, came to know about the alleged theft, he flew into a rage and repeatedly beat her with sticks. Pooja later succumbed to her injuries.
Her mother, Aarti Devi, also suffered injuries while trying to shield her daughter from the assault, police said. An investigation is underway into the incident.
