UK General Election Results: The Labour Party has returned to power after 14 years with a landslide victory in the UK general elections. Results of 641 out of 650 seats of the House of Commons have been declared. The main opposition Labour Party, which contested the elections under the leadership of Keir Starmer, has won 410 out of these 641 seats. The Conservative Party, which contested the elections under the leadership of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, could win only 119 seats. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has accepted defeat and taken responsibility for the party’s poor performance in the general elections. He has also congratulated Labour Party leader Keir Starmer on the victory.
In the elections for the 650 seats of the British Parliament House of Commons, the magic number for a majority is 326 seats and the Labour Party’s number is much higher than this. Along with the massive victory of the Labour Party and the big defeat of the Conservative Party, there is also talk about a small party Reform UK and its leader Nigel Faraz. Nigel Faraz has contested elections seven times to reach the House of Commons but had to face defeat every time. 60-year-old Nigel Faraz has been successful in reaching the House of Commons by winning in his eighth attempt.
Faraz’s party has won four seats in the election. Reform UK may have been reduced to four seats but it has played a big role in the big defeat of the Conservatives and the landslide victory of the Labour Party. If we look at the British election results, Reform UK’s performance has been better in those seats where the Labour Party candidates were able to win comfortably. In many such seats, the candidates of Nigel Faraz’s party came in second place and wrote the script of the big defeat of the Conservative Party by pushing the candidates of Rishi Sunak’s party to the third position.
Reform UK surprised everyone with its performance in the British elections. Faraz himself has described his party’s performance in the elections as surprising. Reform UK secured 29 and 27 per cent votes in the first two phases of counting. Reform UK leader Nigel Faraz expressed surprise at this performance in the British elections and said that it is beyond any prediction or projection. It is almost unbelievable. It is worth noting that Nigel Faraz’s Reform UK is a right-wing party in Britain. Before this election, no leader from this party has ever been a member of the House of Commons.
Identified as a Brexit party
Nigel Farage was the leader of UKIP, which won 24 seats with 27 percent vote share in the 2014 European Union elections. UKIP raised the issue of Brexit and demanded a referendum on it. Britain’s then Prime Minister David Cameron had to bow down to the demand of the party led by Farage. After the referendum, Britain left the EU.
