Two women have alleged that Circle Inspector from Moodbidri in Mangaluru sexually harassed them over the past year and demanded Rs 25 lakh for the release of one of their husbands.

The CI has been identified as Sandesh BG. One of the women claimed that during a family dispute case, her husband was arrested and the officer demanded the money for his release.

“When I refused, I was asked to come to the IB. When I said I am not that kind of woman, he sent my husband to jail,” she said.

The women also alleged that the inspector repeatedly harassed them and targeted women involved in family disputes, often approaching victims directly in locations without CCTV coverage rather than responding to calls or messages.

The women also stated that they had filed multiple complaints with the police commissioner but no action had been taken so far.

An ACP-level investigation is now underway, and further action will follow based on the probe’s findings.

The Karnataka State Commission for Women has expressed concern over the incident and has requested a detailed report from the Mangaluru City Police.

In a letter to the Mangaluru Police Commissioner, the Karnataka State Commission for Women referred to a report aired on Monday by a Kannada news channel alleging that Sandesh B.G., Circle Inspector at Moodbidri Police Station, sexually harassed a woman by promising to secure her husband’s release from jail in a pending case.

Condemning the allegations, the commission stated that the officer’s behaviour amounts to serious misconduct, dereliction of duty, and misuse of power by a government official entrusted with protecting women.

The commission has directed the police to conduct a formal inquiry according to rules, take disciplinary action if the allegations are substantiated, and submit a report at the earliest.
