Donald Trump said that while Washington’s direct involvement may not continue for long, the US still has some unfinished military objectives.

West Asia War: US President Donald Trump has said that Washington would not remain deeply involved in the war with Iran for much longer, suggesting a timeline of about two to three weeks as the US continues both military action and diplomatic outreach.
While briefing the press from Oval Office, the US President said that American military operations in Iran could end “very soon.”
“All I have to do is leave Iran, and we’ll be doing that very soon, and they’ll become tumbling down. We’re finishing the job, and I think within maybe two weeks, maybe a couple of days longer, to do the job,” he said as reported by news agency AFP.

He emphasised that Washington’s withdrawal would not depend on reaching a deal with Tehran, which has in retaliation effectively closed the crucial Strait of Hormuz to oil tanker traffic.
“They don’t have to make a deal with me… Whether we have a deal or not, it’s irrelevant,” Trump said, adding that the US would exit once it believes Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been sufficiently degraded.
Earlier today, while speaking to New York Post, the Republican leader echoed similar stance and said that the US was currently carrying out overwhelming military action against Iran.
“We’re not going to be there too much longer. We’re obliterating the s–t out of them right now, it’s a total obliteration,” Trump said.
He added that while Washington’s direct involvement may not continue for long, the US still has some unfinished military objectives.
“But we won’t have to be there much longer, but we have more work to do in terms of killing their offensive, whatever offensive capability they have left,” he said.
His comments came after Trump called on countries facing oil shortages from disruptions at the Strait of Hormuz to either “buy from the US” or “build up some delayed courage” and secure their own supplies from the critical waterway.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called out countries, specifically pointing to the United Kingdom, for not helping the US request to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has effectively closed due to the Middle East war.
He also warned that the United States would no longer step in to help, saying countries must “start learning how to fight for yourself.”
Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the coming days would be “decisive” and did not rule out further escalation, including the possibility of ground operations.
“It’s not just our problem set going forward,” Hegseth said, noting that while the U.S. had taken the lead in securing the region, other countries would need to step up.
