US golfing legend Tiger Woods was arrested and jailed on Friday for allegedly driving under the influence after his vehicle was involved in a rollover car crash in Florida, according to Martin County Sheriff John Budensiek.
Authorities said the crash took place not far from Woods’ residence in Jupiter Island. He was driving a Land Rover and clipped a pickup truck pulling a small trailer while attempting to overtake it at high speed, Budensiek told reporters. The crash caused Woods’ vehicle to roll onto its side.
Several local reports said there were no serious injuries. “Our DUI investigators came to the scene here. And Woods did exemplify the signs of impairment,” Budensiek said. He was taken to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Woods reportedly refused to submit to a urine test at the jail, and a breathalyser test returned no trace of alcohol, with investigators believing the impairment was drug or medication-related.
Woods was charged with DUI, property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test, all misdemeanor charges. Under Florida law, he must remain in jail for at least eight hours before being released on bond.
Trump Calls Woods ‘Amazing Man’
Reacting to Woods’ accident, US President Donald Trump said he felt bad, calling him an “amazing man.”. Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “I feel so badly… There was an accident and that’s all I know. A very close friend of mine — he’s an amazing person, an amazing man.”

This is the third time that Woods, 50, had been involved in a car crash, most recently in February 2021, when his SUV ran off a road in Los Angeles at high speed that led to multiple leg and ankle injuries.
Woods had been working his way back to golf after rupturing his Achilles just over a year ago and then undergoing his seventh back surgery last year. He has not participated in a golf tournament since July 2024, when he missed the cut at the Open Championship at Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland.
His injury history spans more than two decades and includes multiple back microdiscectomies, ACL reconstruction, Achilles tendon ruptures, various spinal procedures, and chronic left knee issues — all of which have significantly limited his competitive schedule in recent years.
In his personal life, Tiger Woods recently announced his relationship with Vanessa Trump, the ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr. Neither Vanessa nor her daughter Kai or Chole were in the car when the crash took place, as per several reports.
