US President Donald Trump on Sunday said that he believes there is a “good chance” of reaching a deal with Iran by Monday, ahead of his deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face military action.
“I think there is a good chance tomorrow, they are negotiating now,” Trump told a Fox News journalist, referring to behind-the-scenes talks with Iranian officials.
The US President warned that if Iran failed to act, the US could take decisive action.

“If they don’t make a deal and fast, I’m considering blowing everything up and taking over the oil,” he said. He added that Americans would see “bridges and power plants dropping all over their country” if the deadline was ignored.
In the same interview, Trump claimed that the US had armed protesters in Iran during anti-government unrest earlier this year, when thousands of demonstrators were killed. “We sent guns to the protesters, a lot of them,” he said. “And I think the Kurds took the guns.”
Trump’s comments came shortly after an expletive-laden post on his social media platform, Truth Social, where he issued another warning to Tehran.
On Sunday, he wrote that “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!!”
He added: “Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” The post referenced the Strait of Hormuz, a key shipping lane that Iran has effectively closed since US and Israeli strikes began over a month ago.
Separately, Trump also said he would hold a news conference on Monday in the Oval Office, following the US military’s successful rescue of two pilots whose aircraft were downed in Iran on Friday.
