Union Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, launched a sharp attack on Pakistan for abusing international forums and distracting the world from focusing on social development by peddling disinformation against India.
Addressing the plenary session of the second World Summit for Social Development in Doha, Qatar, Mandaviya said, “We take strong objection to certain unjustified references made by the President of Pakistan yesterday on India in its remarks. This is an abuse of an international forum to distract the world from focusing on social development by peddling disinformation against India.”
‘Dependent On Handouts’
“On the Indus Waters Treaty, Pakistan has undermined its spirit through sustained hostility and cross-border terrorism. It has also repeatedly misused the Treaty mechanisms to obstruct India’s legitimate projects,” he added.
Mandaviya reiterated that Pakistan had no locus standi to comment on the affairs of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly when it indulges in acts of cross-border terrorism against the citizens of India, referring to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
“Pakistan would do well to introspect and address its own serious challenges related to development which has made it dependent on hand-outs by international community. It should stop abusing international forums,” he continued.
Pakistan President’s Remarks On India
Mandaviya was responding to Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s remarks on November 4, in which he accused India of “violating” the Indus Waters Treaty, which was suspended in the wake of the terror attack that prompted an Indian military response – Operation Sindoor – against Pakistan-based terror groups.
Zardari said Pakistan faced a “new threat in the form of the weaponisation of water”, saying it was a serious threat. He also compared Kashmir to Palestine, calling them “two sides of the same coin” where “both peoples are fighting for their right to live with dignity”.
In April, India’s Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS)suspended the decades-old Indus Waters Treaty with Pakistan indefinitely, following the Pahalgam terror attack. Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that “blood and water can’t flow together.” Pakistan called this step an “act of war”.
