Smoke was seen billowing from near the United States Embassy compound in Kuwait after an attack linked to Iran, according to witness accounts. A witness told Reuters that firefighters and ambulances were present at the scene on Monday as emergency services responded to the situation.

The embassy warned that there is a continuing threat of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks over Kuwait and urged people not to come to the embassy compound.

Embassy issues shelter-in-place warning

The US Embassy instructed American citizens in Kuwait to shelter in place and review their security plans in case of further attacks. Embassy personnel are also sheltering in place.

Authorities advised residents to remain indoors, take cover in their residences on the lowest available floor, stay away from windows, and avoid going outside.

Safety instructions issued

The embassy outlined several actions for residents to follow during an attack. People were told to seek immediate cover if they hear loud explosions or sirens. Those inside buildings should move to the lowest level with the fewest exterior walls, close doors, and sit near an interior wall away from windows or openings.

Individuals outdoors were advised to seek shelter in a hardened structure or lie down and cover their heads if shelter is unavailable.

Officials also warned that falling debris from intercepted missiles or drones could pose serious risks. After any attack, residents were urged to stay away from debris and monitor major news outlets for official guidance.
