The suicide of IGP rank IPS officer Y Puran Kumar in Haryana has shocked the bureaucracy and politics. On the afternoon of 7 October, Puran Kumar shot himself while sitting on the recliner chair of his private theater at his official residence in Chandigarh. Police found a 9-page suicide note from this room. In its first 8 pages, he has written the names of 12 IAS and IPS officers, while on the ninth page he has written his will.

Below the typed suicide note, Puran Kumar has written the date of death, 7/10/2025, while signing his signature in green ink. This final note Haryana The layers of caste discrimination and harassment within the bureaucracy have been exposed. At the end of the note, IPS Puran Kumar has directly held Haryana DGP Shatrujit Kapoor and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania responsible. After this, both the police officers have been sent on leave.

Puran Kumar has written in the suicide note, “An attempt is being made to implicate me in a false case, so that my honor can be hurt.” I had complained against SP Narendra Bijarania, but no action was taken. I am fed up with casteism, social exclusion and mental oppression. Now I am deciding to end all this.” Just 24 hours before his death, an FIR was registered at Rohtak’s Urban Estate Police Station on October 6.

In this, Puran Kumar’s former staff head constable Sushil Kumar was arrested for demanding Rs 2.5 lakh from a liquor businessman. Puran Kumar’s name was also added in this FIR. In the suicide note he called it a part of a conspiracy. Puran Kumar’s wife and Haryana cadre IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar has made 7 serious allegations in the complaint lodged with the Chandigarh Police. He has accused the DGP and SP of forcing them to commit suicide.

According to the complaint he has filed…

– The authorities publicly humiliated and tortured her husband.

– Discrimination and abuses were done on the basis of caste.

– A false case was registered against his staff in Rohtak.

– When I complained to the DGP, the matter was suppressed, the SP did not even pick up the phone.

– Her husband was stopped from entering the temple, it was said that this place was not for him.

Amneet Kumar says that if these officers are not arrested, they will destroy the evidence and influence the witnesses. The political and administrative uproar that took place after Puran Kumar’s suicide is the first in the history of Haryana. Chief Minister Nayab Saini himself has met the victim’s family and assured action. Only after this the case has been registered.

Haryana IPS Officer Puran Kumar Suicide Case

Chandigarh Police has formed a 6-member SIT under the chairmanship of IG Pushpendra Kumar. This includes SSP Kanwardeep Kaur, SP KM Priyanka, DSP Charanjit Singh Virk, SDPO Gurjit Kaur and SHO Jaiveer Singh Rana. After the complaint of Puran Kumar’s wife, Haryana government has sent DGP Shatrujit Singh Kapoor and SP Narendra Bijarania on leave. Senior police officer OP Singh has been made the acting DGP of Haryana.

After the death of Puran Kumar, Haryana’s bureaucracy has been divided into two parts. Officers from Dalit and backward communities are openly speaking against the government. Senior IAS D Suresh has given an open statement, “When the FIR has been lodged, why was no arrest made?” The law says that those responsible should be arrested immediately.” There is a crowd of leaders, officers and Dalit organizations outside Puran Kumar’s house. The family has refused to perform the last rites even after 72 hours.
