The incident took place at the Royal Park marriage hall in Greater Kailash during the wedding of Yashashvi, who is the daughter of well-known senior advocate DS Chouhan. The accused allegedly discharged the firearm while standing close to several senior political leaders, including Farooq Abdullah and Choudhary. Besides the two, the guest list featured the region’s political and administrative elite including adviser Nasir Aslam Wani and former director general of police Dilbag Singh.
Soon after the incident, J&K CM Omar Abdullah said while the details are sketchy at best, his father, Farooq Abdullah, had a “very close shave”. He shared footage from the event, which shows the incident unfolding.
“Allah is kind. My father had a very close shave. The details are sketchy at the moment but what is known is that a man with a loaded pistol was able to get within point blank range & discharge a shot. It was only the close protection team that deflected the shot & ensured that the assassination attempt failed. There are more questions than answers at the moment including but not limited to how someone was able to get this close to a Z+ NSG protected former CM,” Omar said in a post on X.

HOW IT ALL UNFOLDED

The shot is said to have directly passed between Farooq Abdullah and Choudhary. Security personnel promptly acted to neutralise the threat, apprehending the man and removing him from the premises for further interrogation.
