Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that Naxalism in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar is on the verge of ending, crediting security forces and development efforts for the change.
Highlighting the shift in the region, Shah said, “The shadow of the Red Terror has been lifted from baster.” He stressed that violence cannot be justified and added, “The remedy for injustice lies within the Constitution. Taking up arms while rejecting the established system is wrong.”
Issuing a strong warning, the Home Minister said, “This is the Modi government; whoever takes up arms will be held accountable.”
Shah also acknowledged the role of security forces and the sacrifices made over the years. “This major development that is about to take place in the country deserves full credit and recognition for our CAPF जवान, especially the COBRA forces, the police of various state governments—particularly the Chhattisgarh Police—and the DRG personnel,” he said.
Paying tribute to those who lost their lives, he added, “Today, left-wing extremism is on the verge of being ended, and the public has also played a significant role in this. On this occasion, I would like to humbly pay tribute, on behalf of the entire House, to the thousands of young lives lost and the security forces personnel who were martyred, and acknowledge their sacrifice.”
The Home Minister underlined that development has reached remote areas of Bastar, weakening support for extremism.
Launching a scathing attack at the Opposition, Shah said, “Many people are spreading misinformation that they are fighting for your justice and your development. Honorable sir, Naxalism in Bastar has almost been ended. Campaigns have been carried out in every village of Bastar—to build schools, to open ration shops in every village. Hospitals have been built in every tehsil and panchayat. People have received Aadhaar cards, ration cards, and are getting 5 kg of food grains. Gas stoves are also being distributed.”
The Union Home Minister further questioned those who have supported such movements in the past, Shah said, “I want to ask: those who have been advocating Naxalism since 1970—why did they not eliminate it until now?”
“Those who are acting as advocates of armed movements say they are fighting against injustice. But will they accept the Constitution or not? You cannot reject the entire system and take up arms—this will not be allowed in the country. That time is over. This is the government of Narendra Modi—anyone who takes up weapons will face action,” he added.
