If there was any doubt about where Senegal stand on the subject of the 2026 AFCON, they’ve just cleared it up — loudly, defiantly, and very, very publicly.
Ahead of their friendly against Peru at the Stade de France, Senegal’s players walked out carrying the AFCON trophy — the one currently at the centre of a full-blown legal and political storm.
Fans inside the stadium didn’t hold back either. Chants rang out declaring: “We won it clean and clean, not in the boardroom. We deserve it, and no one will touch it.”

The Trophy Tour Gets Wilder
Since their controversial AFCON triumph, Senegal have turned the trophy into something of a travelling statement piece.
From military bases to presidential offices, and even reports of the trophy being symbolically “guarded” by a lion, the trophy has been safeguarded in every imaginable way possible.
🚨💣 El Hadji Diouf has a cheeky message for Senegal fans:🗣️ “If we win at CAS, we must give ourselves a 3rd star. ⭐️
They want to win the board room and we already won it on the field. we have nothing to stress off.
You win on the field and off it.” 🤣🇸🇳

AFCON Final Chaos Sparks Fallout
The drama traces back to the Africa Cup of Nations Final in Rabat.
Senegal edged Morocco national football team 1-0 in a tense contest that spiralled late on. A VAR-awarded penalty for Morocco triggered chaos, with head coach Pape Thiaw instructing his players to walk off.
After nearly 20 minutes, calm was restored, thanks in part to Sadio Mane, and play resumed.
Brahim Diaz missed the penalty. Senegal held on. Pape Gueye struck in extra time.
Weeks later, Confederation of African Football dropped a bombshell: Senegal had forfeited the match due to the walkoff. The result was overturned. Morocco awarded a 3-0 win — and the title.
Senegal Take the Fight to CAS
Senegal aren’t backing down. The federation has formally appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, demanding the decision be overturned and the title reinstated.
“The FSF appeal seeks to set aside the CAF decision and declare the FSF winners of AFCON,” CAS confirmed.
They’ve also asked for proceedings to pause until CAF provides full reasoning behind its ruling.
And until a final verdict arrives, Senegal will keep doing what they’ve been doing best lately: Holding on to that trophy, and making sure the world sees it.
