Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar met Russian President Putin in Moscow on Tuesday. The meeting took place during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) meeting held in Moscow.

Jaishankar made India’s strong stand on terrorism clear during the meeting. He said there can be no excuse for terrorism and India will take every step to protect its citizens.

Jaishankar said that SCO was established to fight terrorism, separatism and extremism. Today the danger of these challenges has increased more than ever. He appealed to the organization to adopt a policy of zero tolerance.

Jaishankar also told that recently two major terrorist attacks took place in India. One in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which 26 people died and the other in a car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi, in which 15 people lost their lives.

He termed these incidents as a matter of grave concern and stressed on fighting unitedly against terrorism. In the meeting, Jaishankar also stressed the need for reform and modernization of SCO.

The Indian Foreign Minister said that the organization has to change with time and the decision to make English the official language of the SCO should not be postponed any further. At present only Russian and Chinese languages ​​are used in SCO.

He also expressed concern over global economic uncertainty and said that threats to supply chains are increasing in the world, hence countries need to increase mutual trade and cooperation. India is working on Free Trade Agreements (FTA) with many SCO countries.

Talking on issues related to culture and humanity, Jaishankar said that the cultural relations between India and SCO countries are very deep. India has organized exhibitions of the holy relics of Lord Buddha in many countries and is also ready to cooperate in heritage conservation.

Jaishankar also talked about how India helped SCO countries during the pandemic by sending vaccines, medicines and equipment. After the meeting he also met the PMs of Mongolia and Qatar.

This meeting was hosted by Russia, for which Jaishankar thanked Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

India is the second largest buyer of Russian oil

India bought crude oil worth $ 2.5 billion (about Rs 22.17 thousand crore) from Russia in October, making it the world’s second largest buyer. This information has been given by the Helsinki-based Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA) in its report.

According to CREA, China stood first with imports worth 3.7 billion dollars (about Rs 32.82 thousand crores). Overall, India’s fossil fuel imports from Russia have reached $3.1 billion (about ₹27.49 thousand crore).

At the same time, China’s total figure was 5.8 billion dollars (about ₹ 51.44 thousand crores). China also remained the largest buyer of Russian coal. It bought coal worth $760 million. At the same time, India imported Russian coal worth $351 million and oil products worth $222 million in October.

Jaishankar said- discussion on new agreements in the final stage in both the countries

Jaishankar had a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov yesterday. During this, he said that new agreements and projects between the two countries in many fields including energy, trade, investment, space, science and defense are in the final stages of discussion.

The two countries are also openly discussing complex global situations, such as the Ukraine conflict, the situation in West Asia and Afghanistan.
