1. Salary may increase due to 8th Pay Commission The Central Government has announced the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission. The timeline has not been specified yet, but it is believed that it may be implemented from January 2026.
The government says that its purpose is to revise the salary, pension and allowances of central employees. This will increase the amount received by the employees.
Suppose, according to the 7th Pay Commission, your basic salary is Rs 35,400, then after DA and HRA it becomes around Rs 65,500. However, after the 8th Pay Commission, it may cross Rs 1 lakh 10 thousand.

What is Fitment Factor: This is a multiplier number, which is multiplied by the existing basic salary to arrive at the new basic salary. The Pay Commission decides it keeping in mind inflation and living cost.
2. CNG and domestic PNG will be cheaper The Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has reduced the gas transportation charge from January 1, 2026. After this, the prices of CNG and domestic piped natural gas i.e. PNG will reduce by ₹ 2-3 per unit in different states of the country.

3. New slab of ITR will save money
Now no tax will have to be paid on income up to Rs 12 lakh if ITR is filed under the new tax regime for the financial year 2025-26. For employed people, the exemption will be ₹ 12.75 lakh with standard deduction of ₹ 75 thousand. Earlier this limit was Rs 7 lakh.
According to tax expert Chartered Accountant (CA) Anand Jain (Indore), now those whose annual income is up to Rs 12 lakh, will save tax of Rs 60 thousand. Those with income of Rs 10 lakh will save Rs 40 thousand.
Apart from this, a new slab of 25% tax has been included in the new regime for those whose annual income is between ₹ 20 to ₹ 24 lakh. Earlier, 30% tax had to be paid on income above ₹15 lakh. This will save taxes for the middle and upper middle class.

4. Reduction in interest on small savings schemes
There may be an announcement of reduction in interest rates of Small Savings Scheme by the end of this month i.e. by 31st December. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has reduced the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.25%. In such a situation, the rates of government savings schemes are also expected to reduce.

5. Cars may become costlier by 2-3%
Cars of companies like Maruti, Tata, MG and Hyundai may become expensive from January 1. MG has also announced the price increase, while other companies may also announce it soon.
MG Motor has increased the prices of cars by 2% due to increase in input costs. Due to this, MG Hector will become costlier by Rs 38 thousand. Apart from MG, in the luxury segment, Mercedes and BMW have announced to increase the prices by 2-3%.

6. Aadhaar mandatory for railway reservation during the day from January 12 From January 12, users whose IRCTC account is not linked to Aadhaar will not be able to book tickets from 8 am to 12 midnight. These rules are only for the first day of opening of reserved ticket booking.
Reservations open 60 days before the train departure date. The day this booking opens is considered the first day. Its purpose is to give as many passengers as possible the opportunity to book tickets online on the opening day and to stop booking through fake accounts.

7. New Income Tax Act will come into force
The new Income Tax Act 2025 will come into effect from April 1, 2026. This will replace the old law of 1961. The government says that the new bill will simplify tax laws. There will be no change in the tax rate due to this.

- Crypto assets will be counted under undisclosed income, just as cash, bullion and jewelery are currently included. This has been done so that digital transactions can be controlled in a transparent and legal manner.
- The Taxpayers’ Charter has been included in the bill, which will protect the rights of tax payers and make tax administration more transparent. This charter will protect the interests of taxpayers and also clarify the rights and responsibilities of tax officers.
- Salary-related deductions, such as standard deduction, gratuity and leave encashment, are now listed in one place. Difficult explanations and provisions present in the old law have been removed, making it easier for taxpayers to understand.

- The law is in simple language, so it will be easy to understand and fill ITR yourself.
- Faceless assessment and digital process reduced hassles and reduced scope for corruption.
