An elderly man in Uttar Pradesh’s Deoria allegedly slit his throat as a sacrifice on the occasion of Eid-Ul-Azha on Saturday. According to the police, Ish Mohammad killed himself on Eid, leaving behind a note.
The police recovered the note addressed to his family, which said, “A man raises a goat like his own child and sacrifices it for Allah. I am offering my own sacrifice in the name of Allah and His Messenger”, Times of India reported.
The cops said that he had used a knife to cut his throat inside a hut near his residence.
As his family members heard him scream, they rushed to the hut and saw him in a pool of blood. They took him to the district medical college with police assistance. He was referred to the Gorakhpur Medical College for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries.
“Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased inflicted the wound himself. However, we are probing the matter from all angles,” Additional Superintendent of Police (North), Arvind Kumar Verma, told news agency PTI.
According to the 60-year-old’s family, he attempted to take his own life after he returned from the dargah of Sultan Syed Makhdoom Ashraf Shah around 10 am following Eid prayers on Saturday.
His wife said that as he returned home, he went to the hut immediately. His cries were heard an hour later, after which the family members found him in a pool of blood with a knife beside him.
Upon seeing her husband in this state, the woman shouted and sought help from the neighbours, who then alerted the police about the incident.
