An emotional moment unfolded at the funeral of Asha Bhosle in Mumbai on Monday, where actor Ranveer Singh was seen consoling her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle as she broke down beside her grandmother’s mortal remains. The legendary singer was cremated with full state honours on Monday at Shivaji Park Crematorium, following her death on April 12 at the age of 92.
Several members of the film and music fraternity gathered at Bhosle’s residence to pay their last respects. Amid the sombre atmosphere, Zanai appeared inconsolable as she stood near the casket. Ranveer Singh stepped in to comfort her, offering a hug and trying to calm her during the difficult moment. The brief exchange, captured on video, reflected the grief surrounding the loss of one of India’s most celebrated voices.

The last rites were performed by Asha Bhosle’s son, Anand Bhosle, in the presence of family, friends, and industry colleagues. Among those who attended were actors Vicky Kaushal, Aamir Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Padmini Kolhapure, and Jackie Shroff.
Singers Shaan and Sudesh Bhosale paid a musical tribute before the final farewell. Senior political leaders, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, were also present to honour her legacy.
A legacy that defined generations
Born to Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle began her musical journey at a young agemaking her debut in 1943 with the Marathi song Chala Chala Nav Bala from Majha Bal.
Over a career spanning more than seven decades, she built an extraordinary body of work across genres. Her collaborations with composer R. D. Burman remain among the most iconic in Indian cinema.
From energetic tracks like Piya tu ab to aaja and Stupid Maro Stupid to soulful classics such as What is heart cheese? and You have stolenher voice defined multiple eras of Hindi film music.
Her contributions were recognised with two National Film Awards, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000, and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
