A journey that began like any other ended in shock and grief when the wife of an Additional District Judge Rajkumar Chauhan was found dead inside a train washroom on Wednesday.
The woman, identified as Usha Chauhan, was travelling in the Kanchiguda-Bhagat Ki Kothi Express (17606) alongside her husband Rajkumar. Reportedly, both husband and wife were travelling from Jodhpur to Nimbahera. Though they were on the same train, the couple had seats in different coaches.
Shortly before the train was scheduled to reach Nimbahera, Usha Chauhan called her husband to tell him that she was heading to the washroom. When the train arrived at Nimbahera station, the judge stepped onto the platform and waited for his wife to get down. When she failed to appear, he grew worried and promptly informed the Government Railway Police (GRP).
The GRP team first reviewed CCTV footage at Nimbahera station, which confirmed that Usha Chauhan had not gotten off the train. Suspecting that she was still on board, officials stepped up the search as the train continued towards Mandsaur.
At Mandsaur station, officials attempted to open the locked washroom door but were unsuccessful. Later police broke down the washroom door at Jaora station and found Usha Chauhan unconscious inside. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Preliminary medical findings indicate that she may have suffered a “silent heart attack.” The family later requested that no post-mortem be carried out. After completing the required legal formalities, authorities handed the body over to the family.
