Days after Raja Raghuvanshi’s body was recovered from a gorge in Meghalaya, his father had alleged that his daughter-in-law, Sonam Raghuvanshi, believed in ‘tantra-mantra’ (black magic) and used the same on his son.

The claims by Raja Raghuvanshi’s father echo with those of the deceased’s mother, who, days earlier, had claimed Sonam may have practised occult and may have been involved in black magic.

Talking to reporters, Raja Raghuvanshi’s father, Ashok Raghuvanshi, told reporters, “On Sonam’s behest, Raja hung a bundle-like thing on the main door of our house.”

“Sonam had told Raja that by hanging it, the household will not be affected by any evil eye,” Raja Raghuvanshi’s father claimed.

“After Raja’s murder, I feel Sonam believes in ‘tantra-mantra’ and she used it on my son. After the murder, this bundle was removed from the house. Those guilty of killing my son should be hanged,” he alleged.

Also speaking to reporters, Raja Raghuvanshi’s mother, Uma Raghuvanshi, said her son and Sonam were ‘mangliks’, reiterating her earlier claims.

“Sonam stayed at our house for only four days after marriage and went to her maternal home as per tradition,” Raja Raghuvanshi’s mother said.

“We happily sent her off to her maternal home. If I ever meet her, the only thing I will ask is why did she get my son killed,” she said.

Sonam and Raja Raghuvanshi, who got married in Indore on May 11, arrived in Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20.

They were reported missing on May 23.

The police recovered Raja Raghuvanshi’s body from a gorge in Meghalaya on June 2, while his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, remained missing.

She was traced and arrested from Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur in the early hours of June 9.

Subsequently, her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha, and three others – believed to be hitmen who executed Raja Raghuvanshi- were also arrested.

Upon her arrest, Sonam claimed she was drugged, abducted, and abandoned in Ghazipur. However, the police said she had surrendered in the case.

The accused in the case were handed over to the Meghalaya Police, who were probing the other angles in the case.

Later, it was known that Sonam, in police custody, had confessed to her involvement in husband Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder.
