Punjab Police on Thursday said that a terror module linked to Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and backed by Pakistan’s ISI has been dismantled following the arrest of two operatives.
The group was allegedly preparing to carry out major attacks aimed at disturbing peace in the state, news agency reported qotuing the police.
The two arrested individuals have been identified as Akash Masih and Jablaun, both residents of Dulla Nangal in Gurdaspur district. Police said that both accused have a criminal background, PTI reported.
Officials said that the arrests led to the recovery of a significant quantity of arms and explosive materials. These included five hand grenades, two special detonators, and improvised explosive device (IED) components. The seized materials also included around one kilogram of explosives packed with nails, a push-to-talk timer with coder and decoder, a 9-volt battery, a Baofeng walkie-talkie with cable, and a trigger mechanism.

Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said the operation was carried out jointly by Amritsar Rural Police, Gurdaspur Police, the Counter Intelligence Wing’s State Special Operation Cell in Amritsar, along with central agencies.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Border Range) Sandeep Goel said that initial findings suggest the module was being run by handlers based outside India and linked to the ISI.
Police said that further investigation is ongoing to trace both forward and backward connections, and to identify the wider network and any local support involved in the case.
Providing details about the arrests, Gurdaspur Senior Superintendent of Police Aditya said that a police team had set up a checking point at the T-point in Jogowal Bedia village. During the checking, two युवकों riding a motorcycle were signalled to stop. However, they attempted to turn back and escape after noticing the police presence.
The police team intercepted them and carried out a search. During the inspection, the pillion rider was found carrying two bags, one blue and one yellow, wrapped in cloth. The bags were found to contain explosive materials and related devices.
Following this, forensic and bomb disposal teams were called to the spot. The teams safely defused the grenades and explosive materials recovered from the accused, SSP Aditya said.
Police said that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered at Kalanaur police station in Gurdaspur under relevant sections of the Explosive Substances Act. Further investigation into the case is currently in progress.
