Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Tuesday that all schools in the state will be closed from August 27 to 30 due to heavy rain forecasts. Continuous rainfall over the past two days has caused flooding in several villages across various districts of the state.
“It has been raining heavily for the past few days and the weather department has predicted heavy rains for the next few days as well. In view of this, all primary, secondary, senior secondary government and private schools in the state will remain closed from August 27 to August 30,” CM Mann posted on X.

Continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir has led to the overflowing of rivers such as the Sutlej, Beas, Ujh, and Ravi, causing severe flooding in various districts of Punjab, reported PTI.
Special DGP Arpit Shukla stated, “Due to continuous rainfall in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, several rivers in Punjab, including the Satluj, Beas, Ujh, and Ravi, have overflowed, leading to flooding in various districts such as Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Kapurthala, Fazilka, Tarn Taran, and Firozpur.”
Not just Punjab, schools will also remain closed in Himachal Pradesh as well as Jammu and Kashmir.
The Jammu and Kashmir government has mandated the closure of all educational institutions and offices, except for essential services and law and order departments, due to heavy rainfall.
The Meteorological Department predicts very heavy rainfall in the Jammu division over the next 40 hours, with the water levels of the Basantar, Tawi, and Chenab rivers currently at alert levels.
“In view of the prevailing adverse weather conditions and in the interest of public safety, it is hereby ordered that all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, universities, coaching centres, and training institutes, shall remain closed tomorrow,” Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar said in an order.
