The Pune City police raided a rave party in an apartment in the upmarket Kharadi area in the wee hours of Sunday and detained Pranjal Khewalkar, the husband of NCP (Sharad Pawar) leader Rohini Khadse and son-in-law of former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse.
During the search, police recovered drugs, including cocaine, and detained seven people in connection with the matter, including Pranjal Khewalkar.
Apart from Khewalkar, the Crime Branch said two women and four men were also detained during the raid conducted around 3 am today.
The Indian Express quoted Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar as saying that Pranjal will be arrested soon. “At the moment, he has been detained. The process for his arrest is underway…He will be arrested,” the officer said.
“We had an input that something like a rave party was going on at a location in Kharadi. Our team raided a studio apartment in the early hours. Seven people, including two women and five men, have been detained. Among the five persons is a man identified as Pranjal Khewalkar. During the raid, we seized drugs, including cocaine and marijuana, along with liquor. Preliminary field kid tests have confirmed these drugs,” an officer from the Crime Branch told TIE.
“A thorough panchnama of the raid location is being done, and after all the formalities, an offence will be registered. No arrests have been made now, and seven people have been detained,” said the officer.
Officials confirmed that a deeper probe is underway to trace the suppliers and uncover the full scale of the illegal network, with sources indicating that more names may surface as the investigation advances.
