Premier League table-toppers Arsenal were held to a scoreless draw by holders Liverpool at the Emirates on Friday in a high-stakes clash between the sides.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Arne Slot’s Liverpool played out a 0-0 draw at the home of the English top-flight leaders in what proved to be a cagey affair.

The draw helped Arsenal restore their 6 point lead over second-placed Manchester City following Pep Guardiola and Co.’s stalemate against Brighton a day earlier. The Gunners has the opportunity to go eight points clear of the Mancunian side, but Liverpool managed to grab a point on the day against Arteta’s men.

“Yes, every time you don’t win it is a missed opportunity,” said Arteta.

“I have to really praise the team for what they have done in this Christmas period,” the former midfielder added.

“To come out of this period with all the issues we had the boys deserve all the credit. We are in a really strong position and we have to go again,” he continued.

Slot, who has had to deal with a turbulent season with the Merseyside Reds believed that, “From all that ball possession you are hoping for more chance creation.”

“This is who we are. We can dominate possession but we struggle in a few things,” the Dutchman continued.

“Set pieces and then to find the right pass in the final third, we are still not at the level of some other teams,” he added.
