Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the 9th Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog today. The focus of the meeting will be on making India a developed nation by 2047. Apart from this, the Chief Ministers of different states will talk about their states.

Chief Ministers of 7 states have refused to attend this meeting. These include Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Kerala and Jharkhand. However, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will attend this meeting. She said that she will raise the issue of discrimination against the states in Budget 2024-25.

Mamata said- abolish Niti Aayog
Before the meeting, Mamata Banerjee said that end the policy commission and bring back the Planning Commission. The Planning Commission was Netaji Bose’s idea. There will be discussion on making India a developed country by 2047
Developed India @ 2047 will be discussed in the meeting of the Governing Council of Niti Aayog. The role of states in making India developed will also be discussed. Niti Aayog says that the country is on its way to becoming the third economy of the world with a GDP of $ 5 trillion. India will achieve the target of a $ 30 trillion economy by 2047.

Centre formed a new team of NITI Aayog
The central government announced the new team of NITI Aayog on July 16. Apart from four full-time members, 15 Union ministers from BJP and NDA allies have been included as ex-officio members or special invitees.

A notification related to this was issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will remain the chairman of the commission and economist Suman K Beri will remain the vice-chairman. Apart from this, scientist VK Saraswat, agriculture economist Ramesh Chand, pediatrician VK Paul and macro-economist Arvind Virmani will remain full-time members.

Names of 15 Union Ministers included in NITI Aayog
Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be the four ex-officio members. Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Health Minister JP Nadda, Heavy Industries Minister HD Kumaraswamy and MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi have been made special invitee members in NITI Aayog.

Apart from these, the specially invited members include Panchayati Raj Minister Lallan Singh, Social Justice Minister Virendra Kumar, Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu, Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram, Women and Child Welfare Minister Annapurna Devi, Food Processing Minister Chirag Paswan and Minister of State with Independent Charge Rao Indrajit Singh.

Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Anurag Thakur, who were included in the commission last year, have not been made members of the commission this year.

What is NITI Aayog?
The National Institution for Transforming India is known as NITI Aayog. It is a policy think tank of the Government of India, which gives information about the work and policies of the government. The Modi government at the Center formed NITI Aayog in 2015 in place of the 65-year-old Planning Commission. The Planning Commission used to make plans related to the development of the country.

NITI Aayog plays an important role in formulating strategies for the government’s long-term policies and programs. The chairman of the commission is the Prime Minister. Apart from the chairman, there is a vice-chairman and an executive officer. They are appointed by the Prime Minister. Prime Minister Modi chaired the first meeting of NITI Aayog on 8 February 2015.
