Ruben Amorim insists Manchester United “can take nothing for granted” as they prepare to face Everton at Old Trafford on Monday — a fixture that coincides with the one-year anniversary of his first match in charge.

Amorim’s United debut came with a 1–1 draw away to Ipswich last November, and the Portuguese coach has ridden out plenty of turbulence since. But a five-game unbeaten run has lifted United to seventh in the Premier League, sparking talk of a favourable stretch of fixtures ahead.

Amorim wasn’t having it.

“It doesn’t matter,” he said when told United face only three top-10 sides in their next 10 matches. “In our league, the table is irrelevant — everything is so tight. If you know our history, you never know where the difficult games are.”

Reflecting on how much his squad has changed since that first outing — with five starters from the Ipswich game no longer at the club — Amorim said the early reality of life at United hit him fast.

“I knew we would struggle with some things,” he said. “Yes, it’s the best league in the world and maybe the best club in the world, but it’s a big job and it requires a lot of work.”

Still, he believes United are clearly progressing.

“We are showing improvement,” Amorim said. “But we can’t forget the suffering from last year. We must play every match like it’s the last or the first. I expect a team with more control, more dominance, and most importantly, a team that’s more competitive in every way.”
