A parliamentary panel rapped IndiGo and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on their “unsatisfactory response” to what caused the flight crisis leading to widespread chaos across major Indian airports earlier this month.
Expressing deep concern over the state of affairs, the parliamentary committee has given 15 days to the ministry of civil aviation to respond to questions posed by its members.
Citing the ongoing investigation into the matter, the ministry has sought time to respond to the queries.
Earlier in the day, the committee looking into the chaos at Indian airports due to large-scale flight cancellations, held a high-level meeting with IndiGo and other airline operators, taking up the issue of the “major technical glitch” that led to the crisis in the first place.
Top government officials from the aviation ministry Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) were also part of the meeting, which comes two days after the four-member panel visited the IndiGo headquarters as part of the ongoing probe.
The four-member panel, comprising Joint DG Sanjay Brahamane, Deputy Director General Amit Gupta, senior Flight Operations Inspector Kapil Manglik, and FOI Lokesh Rampal, has been tasked with identifying the root causes of widespread operational disruptions. Its mandate includes assessing manpower planning, fluctuating rostering systems, and the airline’s preparedness to implement the latest duty period and rest norms for pilots.
